A little
bit of luck, a lot of hard work, and a lifetime of music have allowed
the Artists Recovery Fund to become the gift that keeps on giving.
Immediately after the Iowa River flood waters receded, a group of
University of Iowa graduate students organized the Artists Recovery Fund
to help UI art and music students who had lost creative work, art-making
tools, and musical instruments. Because of generous contributions from
the Community Foundation of Johnson County, The Carver Trust, a myriad
of private donors, and the kindness of local resident and
internationally known musician Greg Brown who headlined a benefit
concert at Old Brick for the fund, the Artists Recovery Fund was able to
replace all of the artist tools for every student who applied for
financial support.
Now, with the help of Joe Scherrman and Jeff Tucker at DreamCatcher
Productions in Dyersville and Tucker Burnes at Tucker Burnes Recording
in Iowa City, the Artists Recovery Fund is pleased to release a DVD
featuring the Greg Brown Artists Recovery Fund Benefit Concert.
The DVD is available for a $30 at www.comicsinaction.com/artists-recovery-fund/.
Since the fund has successfully completed its goal for the UI arts and
music students, all proceeds at going to the New Bohemia Group in Cedar
Rapids to help them rebuild their arts community in and around Czech
village that was completely devastated by the floods.
